Anna Shimonovitc - Week 3: Being Delusional Is The Best Study Method

This might be the wrong audience for this topic, but I think the best motivation for anything is just acting like you're in a movie. That sounds weird, but I don't mean giving the Jim face to the wall, I mean just pretending like your life is perfect and you're following the plot of a movie. Maybe not even pretending like you're in a movie, but like your life is more put-together than you actually are. Like, convincing yourself that you could be those put-together girls on Pinterest who wake up at 5 a.m. for their run. Well, I guess most of you don't aspire to be those girls, but you get the idea. Like, I do this by playing music, drinking coffee, and pretending like I'm Rory from Gilmore Girls (I haven't seen the whole show but I get the vibe, probably). I feel like doing this just makes the work more tolerable, and gives you motivation to start. I'm not even exaggerating, every time I know I have a lot of homework to do, I say to myself that I am exactly like the girl from Legally Blond (I also haven't seen it but I know the important parts from context, probably). Even if a Rory Gilmore Pinterest board won't help you study, I think the concept could help. Like, convincing yourself that studying for 20 minutes will inevitably get you into Harvard could be enough motivation to start studying. Even if you know you just need to pass your science quiz, making schoolwork a tiny bit more tolerable with delusions could help in the long run. Or if this entire idea is stupid to you, you could listen to your favorite playlist or drink a Redbull, if you want to be basic. But always consider the Rory Gilmore mindset (if anyone has seen the show, feel free to correct me. I think she like didn't even get into Harvard at the end or something?)

So what do you do to help you with homework? Do you just force yourself to be motivated, or have some kind of a specific mindset?

*Sidenote: while looking for an image related to this I searched for "studying" and the first search was "aesthetic" before any reasonable searches, like "studying tips" or something. And every other picture was Rory Gilmore.

  1. I think this method is very unique. What I do is just push myself as hard as I can even though I do get lazy. I do need to be more consistent with what I do and motivate myself. I don't really have a whole mindset because I usually like to procrastinate which is a terrible habit.
