Cameron Nikpour - Week 3 - Just One More Episode

I sit on my bed, watching maybe the tenth episode of the show I've been binging for maybe 2 weeks at the most. I look at the clock. It's 1:30. Where has the time gone? Well, might as well not stop now.

This mindset has plagued many binge-show watchers for generations, me being one of the victims. Did you know that binge-watching shows have been linked to addiction, sleep problems, sedentary behaviors, and psychological distress? Did you know one more thing? Why is Suits so good?  That's the constant question in my mind. Is it worth it? I understand the links of binging and the risks previously mentioned, but I REALLY want to watch Suits. This destructive behavior is not unique by any means. It can be applied to anything; Some people play video games, scroll social media, or shop in excessive amounts akin to my own problem.

These socially acceptable addictions, as I like to call them, plague this generation.  It's a dilemma we all grapple with. On one hand, we all know the risks, but on the other hand seems to be like a cookie jar that you just have to reach into. Overall, it's a personal choice between the now and later. Honestly, I'm still going to hit play on that episode, and then I am going to forget even how I did not like it when I did this. What is life without the simple pleasures?

Do you do anything that you know is going to be bad for you down the line?

  1. Shows are made to keep you watching as long as possible and are very hard to turn away from. I struggle with putting down a video game because the game makes you want to play one more game or do one more mission.

  2. I know that I also have a serious binge-watching problem and stay up very late watching TV. This addiction is very dangerous and causes me to lack sufficient sleep. I hope they create a support group for people like us and realize the severity of our situation.

  3. I know that drinking too much caffeine too early in the day is a bad habit, but I still sometimes do it anyway. It can cause a disruption in the sleep cycle, energy dips, growth stunting, and more. I definitely see over time the effects it has on me, so I made a big commitment to stop doing so as much!
