Jayden Kahn - Week 1; Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

    Get outside the bubble

This prior week, I watched a TV show called "The Summer I Turned Pretty". While I really enjoyed the show and found it very entertaining, something that someone said stuck out to me: "In order to grow, you have to put yourself in uncomfortable situations." While this quote is very literal, it has a deeper meaning. It is important to take that leap of faith and do something new - explore new things. While sometimes it may be easier to hide in your shell, it is good to branch out. By putting yourself in uncomfortable situations, it allows you to grow as you become comfortable with the uncomfortable. Therefore, you can always be on your toes and be ready for anything. It also gives you a sense of experience that you may not have had before. Additionally, it gives you a new sense of confidence so you never feel uncomfortable in those situations ever again.

Sometimes I too struggle stepping out of my comfort zone. I used to prefer to keep my hand down as I did not want to look like I did not understand what was being taught. However, this only affected me. I was hurting myself by keeping my hand down. However, when I raise my hand and ask the pertinent questions, I am only helping myself and learning more. This specific situation taught me the true meaning of this quote as I stepped out of my comfort zone and grew, and it benefitted me and my learning ability.

After hearing this quote, not only do I try not to back away from any uncomfortable positions, but I actually put myself in some as it allows me to grow as a person and expand my bubble. What can you do to step out of your comfort zone?
