Josh Matheson - Week 2; FSU vs UF
This week I have had the privilege of being able to visit both the University of Florida and Florida State University. I have never visited either of these schools even though they are my top 2 options for college. It was also my first time touring a college in general. Before the trip I have always had University of Florida as my number 1 option, but after visiting the 2 schools, I understand how some people can make the case that they would rather go to Florida State. While University of Florida is a higher ranked university academically, there are many other factors that should play a role in the decision making of which college to attend. I have always thought that no matter what go to the best school you get into, but I have learned that the most important thing is how you fit in. For example, when I arrived on the UF campus I was struck with the beaming sun of Gainesville, and I realized why they call it the swamp. The tour was great, and the campus was nice, but it was just very big and personally I am not such a fan of too big of a campus. On the other hand, I thought Florida State was beautiful. The architecture and landscape were pretty, while the air felt much lighter than Gainesville and I barely broke a sweat. I also loved how compact the campus was and I was able to see many students walking to and from classes just as I would if I were a student there. Also, I am a big sports guy and to be honest Florida State’s athletic future is looking promising. They are ranked number 3 in the country for football which is my favorite sport to watch, and they are on pace to become a football school by the time I would attend. While the decision will of course be tough, I would love to attend either of these amazing universities.
