Rylan Frydman - Week Four : Kanye West's Antisemitism

Rylan Frydman - Week Four : Kanye West's Antisemitism

Kanye West, also known as Ye, is a very unique, controversial artist. His talent is one of a kind, one of which no other artist will be able to recreate. However, Kanye has said many anti-Semitic statements, many of which the most die-hard fans can not defend. Many have implied that his awful acts are results of Ye being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, yet nothing can excuse that fact of what he said.

Kanye has said multiple anti-semitic statements. One of which was that Jewish people are not the real Jews. Ye has explained that he believes in what is called the Khazarian Hypothesis. It basically goes against the origin of Ashkenazi Jews and being the descendants of the biblical Israelites. It suggest that they descended from the Khazars, made up of Turkish speaking people, who then converted to Judaism.

Secondly, Ye goes on to say how the Jews control the media and everything else in society. He is seen saying statements such as “the Jewish media,” or “Jewish people have owned the black voice,” blaming the Zionist Jews for post such as him and his ex-wife Kim Kardasihian, or her relations with Pete Davidson. He stated that Jews control everything as  all part of a larger global plot conspiracy theory.

Lastly, Kanye West praised Hitler and denied the holocaust. Ye spoke about the redeeming, positive qualities of Hitler, calls him a good architect, he invented highways, microphones and adds that he did not kill 6 million Jews. He defends himself with “I love everyone,” and “I love Jewish people, but I also love Nazis.

Since Kanye has said all these Semitic statements, he has lost billions of dollars, brand deals, fans. He says how can he be Semitic if he is jewish, yet completely hates through racist, harmful statements. No matter how good his music is, no matter what mental disability he has, no matter how apologetic he is, nothing can take back what he said. It’s safe to say Ye lost many fans. Can any of you forgive or be a fan of Kanye ever again? What do you have to say about his statements?

  1. As a fan of Kanyes music, I am really disappointed by his actions. I understand that he has mental problems, but antisemitism hits close to home. I have even met people with the same medical conditions who have never said such things.
