Mia Garaz, Week 6, Coolest Field Trip Ever
This past weekend was the weekend of the coolest field trip I have ever been on! If you go to Donna Klein the Shabbaton is nothing new or special; however, as a new student, this was mind-blowing. I had never been on a school trip that stayed somewhere overnight, let alone three days. Plus, going to a major theme park like Universal, would never even be possible in my past schools. When the shabbaton was first introduced to me I was hesitant; Like I said, I had never been on a trip like this before and I didn’t know what to expect. I asked around, getting a feel of what others thought of the weekend away in Orlando. The results were quite mixed. Some students adored the Shabbaton and always remember it as a good time. Others find it a drag (and complain about the food). Without a straight answer, I was left confused. I wasn’t sure if it was worth it to go or not, especially since I’ve never been a big fan of roller coasters anyway and I’m not super close with my classmates yet. Nevertheless, I decided to take a chance and go with my cousin. We were super excited to spend bus rides, a room, and a whole weekend away from home together.
The bus ride to the hotel was super fun. Me and my cousin, Demi, played games, ate snacks, listened to music, and goofed around with our friends. Finally, when we got to Orlando, we set our stuff down in our rooms and toured the entire hotel. There were two big pools, a water slide, a nice gym, a cafe, and places to lounge around. As soon as I saw the slide, I knew I had to go down it! I dragged my friends back to our rooms, changed, and ran straight to the pool. I probably slipped down that slide a million times during our two-day stay! On the second day, I spent all my time at the pool. I talked to many people I usually never do, which was great as a newcomer. At the end of the day, we did activities with the whole school such as hypnotism, karaoke, and simply just chilling with others. It was also a bonus that thankfully the food this year was quite edible. Just when the wait felt never-ending, it was finally our day at Islands of Adventure. I was so excited I could barely sit still! As we walked in I captured all the amazing buildings, structures, and roller coasters. It felt magical! I had grouped with so many people that day I couldn’t even recall who I was with and when. Though, no matter who I was with, it was my mission to go on my first roller coaster. When walking into the hulk, I thought I would feel my heart drop or at least an ounce of anxiety; however, I felt nothing! I was completely ready to take on my challenge. When the ride began all I could do was scream, it was riveting! Afterward, I went on as many rides as I could; I was addicted to the adrenaline. Though the day was so exciting, it was also tiring, and finally, it was time to go home. I spent the ride home very quietly and even took a nap, and when I got home I was knocked out. After being on this trip I would recommend it if you don’t mind tefillah (that’s one of my biggest downsides), you are close with your peers, love theme parks, and are okay with trying new things. After hearing my experience, would you go on the shabbaton? If not, why? Also, what would be your dream field trip?
