Josh Matheson - Week 4; Tragedy Strikes in Israel
The past two days have been some of the hardest Jews have faced since the Holocaust. Israel was attacked by Hamas and the results were truly heartbreaking. As of now the death toll of Israeli's is at 800 at least, and Israel is still at jeopardy. At least 150 Israelis were also kidnapped and taken to Gaza. Netanyahu declared war and all us as Jews can do now is pray. Personally it has been a crazy 2 days as some of the places I visited this past summer have now been taken under control of Hamas. I went on teen tour to Israel and we visited many places. One day we visited Sderot, which was a city on the border, where the attacks are now taking place. One of my counselors had served in the army and we visited her army base in Sderot. We got to see how the soldiers there worked and even talked to them and asked them questions. We watched the soldiers do their jobs and it is hard to believe that just 2 months later, that base would be taken over by Hamas terrorists. I also got word that some of the people that we met in the base lost their lives in the attack by the terrorists. On the same day we visited a trampoline park, that was also a bomb shelter, and that place was also attacked. It is crazy for me to see these spots be completely destroyed, when I was just there months ago. For now, all I can do is control what I can. For Jews as a whole the best thing to do is pray, give donations, and have faith in G-d and the IDF, that Israel will overcome these tragic attacks and move forward.
Yes, it's so crazy to see these places be attacked when they are just normal places that people go to everyday. I haven't visited these places but I used to visit my family in Israel often, so I can kind of understand your perspective. We really do have to pray and do what we can.
ReplyDeleteIt is so crazy what is going on in Israel. The only thing we can do right now is pray because we are not physically there and hope that the Jews stay safe and stay healthy.
