Josh Matheson - Week 8; The College Basketball Freshmen Are Extremely Talented This Year

Top college basketball freshman debuts: Ranking seven best performances in season openers - CBSSports.com

We are just one day into college basketball season, and the freshmen stars have already began shining in their debuts.  Usually freshmen start the season off slow, as they are just getting used to how the game is played at the college level.  These players are coming from high school, where they are used to being the top player on the team let alone probably the state, putting up crazy statistics, where now they are on a team full of players that were in their position as well.  So far, in my lifetime, I have never seen freshmen play as well in debuts as I saw yesterday in a jam packed college basketball day.  Most teams kicked off their seasons.  The first star that shocked me was the number 1 overall prospect, Isaiah Collier (Pictured Above), who plays for USC.  They took on Kansas State in one of the better games of the night, and Collier took control of the game.  He was easily the best player on the floor and look like he was a senior who has played for years, but he is just a freshman.  He by far is my favorite freshmen to watch.  Another freshman that shocked me was Ja'Kobe Walter of Baylor.  He single handedly led Baylor to a win over a very talented Auburn team.  He took over with 28 points setting the record for most points in a Baylor player's debut.  On the opposing team was freshman guard Aden Holloway who was outstanding.  Leading Auburn in scoring, but just didn't have enough to defeat Walter and his Baylor team.  These are just some of the few Freshmen that exceeded my expectations yesterday and by the way they played, I can tell they are just getting started.  This year is going to be a fun year of watching these stars shine at such a young age, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for each of these stars.

  1. There are a ton of talented players all over the state, not just freshmen. I'm super excited to see how the season unfolds and I can't wait for March.
